Iron your quilt top and backing to ensure a wrinkle-free finish.
Trim loose threads and square up your quilt top and backing.
Check your quilt top for any seam breaks.
Keep your quilt sandwich as three separate layers: top, batting and backing. Do not pre-baste your quilt.
Please check that any borders are even and squared up, otherwise tucking or waviness may need to be used to flatten out any fullness.
With pieced borders or heavily pieced blocks on the edges, please add a stay stitch 1/8"-1/4" from the edge to stabilize the edges.
Your backing fabric and batting should measure an extra 4 inches on all sides. So a total of 8 inches horizontally and vertically larger than your quilt top is needed.
If you plan to piece WOF yardage for your backing, using a 1/2" seam allowance pressed open, is preferred. This will distribute the fabric along the seam evenly.
Please remove any selvage edges from the joined seam prior to sewing the backing together.
If you use a flannel backing, you must pre-wash it as flannel will significantly shrink.
